The thing is, Adobe’s Flash has been the standard that websites have used for interactivity or video or other such interesting stuff.
For some reason (there are all kinds of explanations why) when the iPhone came on the scene in 2007, Apple designed it so that it wouldn’t recognize Flash. Adobe tried its best to convince Apple to accept it, but Apple wouldn’t. They felt Flash was antiquated and unnecessary. A new web development standard was right around the corner then. It was called HTML 5.
Apple probably felt that it was meaningless to cater to a system like Flash that was going to be made redundant shortly. With HTML 5, you don’t need to install a plug-in or anything on your browser. Your browser is just innately capable of doing all that stuff.
